NAVI MUMBAI/PUNE: Heavy rainfall over the weekend disrupted traffic on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway and Mumbai-Goa highway. Huge boulders crashed on the Mumbai-bound carriageway of the Expressway near Adoshi tunnel in Baur Ghat section in the wee hours of Sunday resulting in shutting of two lanes, while two stretches on the Mumbai-Goa highway were closed for 6-10 hours after two rivers swelled in Ratnagiri district on Saturday.

State highway safety patrol Baur Ghat unit constable Sunil Shirsat said the Expressway landslide was reported in the wee hours of Sunday after several days of incessant rain. The authorities cleared the two lanes using earth-movers. Till then, vehicles heading towards Mumbai were diverted from Somatne Phata to the old Pune-Mumbai highway, resulting in traffic jams in Lonavla till traffic movement was restored on the Expressway by 9am. Officials said as it was Sunday, there wasn’t much traffic on the Mumbai-bound carriageway. However, in the evening, there was a traffic jam on the Pune carriageway stretching up to 1.5km.
